WENDY'S HOUSE
In
1997, the Council purchased the home adjacent to its main site
on South Union Street in Olean. The 6-bed residence is designed
to house women who have successfully completed an alcohol and/or
drug treatment program and their children. Wendy's House is named
in memory of Wendy Sue Axleson whose life was cut short in the
prime of her life by a drunk driver.
Wendy's
House provides a safe and sober environment to continue the recovery
work begun in the previous treatment program. Through case management,
residents learn to develop the tools necessary for a safe and
successful transition back into permanent housing. They receive
structured addiction treatment in order to sustain sobriety, coordinate
family reunification, and ensure the parent's long term ability
to maintain custody, housing and financial independence.
